Urban Outfitters Summer 2027 Internships: 13 Ways to Get Inside UO
The Urban Outfitters Summer 2027 Internship Program is officially open with applications for 13 Summer 2027 internships across buying, planning, marketing, creative, studio and design.
From choosing product for UO’s stores to building the campaigns that bring it to life, this is one of the broadest internship groups currently open within the URBN Summer 2027 program. And because several of these opportunities require a concept board, portfolio or other creative work, this is one application cycle where reading the requirements before hitting submit really matters.
Here’s what’s open and what you should know before applying.

Planning & Allocation Intern
Career area: Planning & Allocation
This role sits on the analytical side of the product business. Interns gain experience analyzing sales performance, supporting initial allocations and replenishment and working across buying, planning and operations to identify where inventory should go and where opportunities exist.
The internship also includes a business project tied to allocation processes or potential areas for growth.

Merchandise Planning Intern
Career area: Merchandising / E-commerce
Despite the “planning” title, this particular internship has a strong digital merchandising component. Interns help tell product stories on the Urban Outfitters website through imagery, keywords and curated edits while learning the product lifecycle and working with buying, design, marketing and creative teams.
Basic retail math and proficiency in Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint are useful here.
Applicants must also submit a Fall 2027 Concept Board featuring three to five emerging fashion trends for the UO customer. Portfolio links are encouraged for applicants who have one.

Depending on placement, interns may gain exposure to e-commerce optimization, CRM and loyalty, digital marketing or web analytics. Excel or Google Sheets proficiency is expected, while experience with Google Ads, Meta Ads Manager or GA4 is a plus.

Applicants should have some social media experience through internships, coursework or personal work, along with strong copywriting and proofreading skills.
A Fall 2027 Marketing Campaign Concept Board is required. The project should communicate a potential campaign direction across email, digital and social and include two to three suggested influencer partners with an explanation of why they fit the brand.

Photo Studio Intern
Career area: Photography / Photo Studio
This role takes you onto the production side of UO’s visual content. Interns support shoots through lighting and equipment setup, product handling and organization, digital-tech assistance and the day-to-day needs of a working photo set.
It’s a particularly relevant option for students interested in commercial photography and e-commerce production rather than brand-level campaign concepting.

Graphic Design Intern
Career area: Graphic Design / Brand Creative

The Graphic Design Intern supports UO’s brand design team across day-to-day creative production, adapting artwork and layouts for different formats while helping maintain organized, execution-ready brand assets.
Applicants should understand typography, composition, color theory and responsive design and be proficient in Adobe Creative Suite and Figma. Basic animation or motion design skills, including After Effects, are also listed among the qualifications.

Apparel Design Intern
Career area: Fashion Design
Concentrations: Men’s Apparel Design, Women’s Apparel Design, Concept Design, Print & Pattern Design
Field of study: Fashion Design or related field
Rather than recruiting separately for each design category, Urban Outfitters is using one application for several Apparel Design concentrations.
Interns may contribute to trend research, mood boards, color palettes, sketching, CADs, technical packages, fabric and trim sourcing, fittings and seasonal concept development. Applicants should be proficient in Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign; CLO 3D or similar software is a plus.
URBN says applicants will be notified by November 4 if a design project is required for their application.

Applicants should bring strong sketching and visual communication skills along with Adobe Creative Suite proficiency. The listing also references CAD and CLO 3D among the relevant technical skills.

Which Urban Outfitters Internship Should You Apply For?
With 13 opportunities, the biggest mistake would be treating them as interchangeable because they all sit under the same brand. URBN specifically recommends choosing one internship that best matches your skills and interests, so your application strategy matters.
If you’re interested in product and trend forecasting, start with the four Buying internships and choose the product category you can speak about most convincingly.
If you’re strongest with numbers, inventory and business performance, Planning & Allocation is the clearest match.
If you want to work where product meets e-commerce presentation, look closely at Merchandise Planning.
For marketing, Digital Marketing leans toward paid media, acquisition and analytics, while Brand Marketing is much more focused on content, social, communications and brand storytelling.
And if your work is primarily visual, compare Creative Studio, Photo Studio, Graphic Design, Apparel Design and Home Design carefully. They may all sit under “creative,” but the portfolios and technical skills that make someone competitive for each are very different.
Maria’s Career Tip
With this many internships at one company, applying to the one that feels most exciting isn’t enough. Look at what the team is actually asking you to prove.
For the Buying roles, that means understanding the Urban Outfitters customer and having a point of view on product and trends. Planning requires a stronger analytical mindset. Marketing applicants should be able to show that they understand the difference between building a brand and driving measurable digital performance. Creative applicants need work that demonstrates their visual point of view as well as the technical skills required for the role.
And don’t treat the concept boards as an afterthought. Several of these teams are explicitly using them as part of the application evaluation. If you’re applying for one of those internships, the board is part of your application, not decoration around it.
URBN also tells candidates to apply to the one role that best aligns with their interests and skills. Use that constraint to your advantage. A focused application that makes sense for the role is far stronger than trying to position yourself as someone who could do all 13.
