L'Oréal Summer 2027 Internships Are Open in NYC
If working in beauty is on your career radar, L’Oréal just opened applications for its Summer 2027 Internship Program, with opportunities in New York City across digital, marketing, commercial/sales, data science, finance and sustainability.
And before you immediately head over and start applying, there is one detail worth knowing: you can apply to up to three L’Oréal jobs within a rolling 30-day window, and once you’ve submitted an application, you can’t withdraw it.
In other words, this is one of those times when it pays to figure out which internships actually make sense for you first.
The titles may sound straightforward, but Marketing and Digital aren’t interchangeable. Commercial isn’t simply another word for Marketing. And someone interested in the business side of beauty could realistically be drawn to Finance, Commercial or Data Science for very different reasons.
So, let’s break down what you’re actually choosing between.
L’Oréal Summer 2027 Internship Program
At a Glance
The L’Oréal USA Summer Internship Program is a paid, 11-week program. Interns are placed within one of L’Oréal’s brands or business areas and work as part of the team rather than simply observing from the sidelines.
Here are the major details:
- Location: New York, NY for the opportunities included here
- Program length: 11 weeks
- Pay: $27–$30 per hour
- Work arrangement: Hybrid, with three days in the office and two days working from home
- Application period: August 14–September 30, 2026, with applications reviewed on a rolling basis
- Graduation window: December 2027–July 2028
- Minimum GPA: 3.5
- Previous industry experience: Not required
- Work authorization: Candidates must have authorization to work permanently in the United States. L’Oréal states that immigration support/sponsorship is not offered for these roles.
- Application limit: Up to three jobs within a rolling 30-day period
Interns are also paired with a mentor and buddy and have access to professional development, networking and learning programming throughout the summer.
One of the more important pieces, though, is the work itself.
Across the program, interns are expected to take ownership of an individual strategic project and eventually present their work and recommendations to senior leadership. That tells you quite a bit about what L’Oréal expects from its interns: you’re there to contribute.
The 6 L’Oréal Summer 2027 Internships Open in NYC
For New York applicants, L’Oréal currently has six Summer 2027 internship tracks to choose from:
- Digital: Focused on areas like e-commerce, performance marketing, social media, influencer partnerships, CRM, analytics and SEO.
- Marketing: Covering brand strategy, consumer insights, content, product innovation, integrated campaigns and competitive analysis.
- Commercial / Sales: Centered on retail partnerships, sales performance, account strategy and growing the business across retailers like Sephora, Ulta, Target, CVS and Walgreens.
- Data Science: A more technical track involving data analysis, statistical modeling, machine learning, visualization and data-driven business solutions.
- Finance: Focused on financial analysis, forecasting, budgets, P&L, ROI and using financial data to inform business decisions.
- Sustainability: Working across areas such as sustainable sourcing, packaging, supply chain, consumer research and sustainability communications.
You don’t need to know exactly where you want your career to go before applying. But because L’Oréal limits candidates to three applications within a rolling 30-day period, it helps to understand what you’re choosing.
Here’s how I’d think about each one.
Which L’Oreal Internship Should You Apply For?
All six internships sit within the same company, but they can put you on very different early-career paths.
Digital
Think e-commerce, digital marketing, social media and the way consumers discover and shop brands online.
Depending on placement, Digital interns could work in areas including e-commerce strategy, performance marketing and media, social media and community management, influencer and creator partnerships, marketing analytics, CRM and personalization, digital content and SEO.
There’s also a significant analytical side to this track. L’Oréal specifically mentions tools and platforms including Google Analytics 4 and Salesforce alongside campaign performance and ROI measurement.
Consider Digital if: you’re fascinated by how brands reach consumers online, how social and e-commerce influence purchasing behavior, or how data can improve digital marketing decisions.
This is also worth exploring if you’ve assumed a “digital” career means making social content all day. There are several very different careers hiding underneath that umbrella.
Marketing
Marketing is broader and more focused on building the brand and understanding the consumer.
Interns may get exposure to brand strategy, consumer insights, content and creative development, influencer and creator partnerships, marketing analytics and technology, product innovation, integrated campaigns and competitive analysis.
You’ll also own day-to-day brand responsibilities and work cross-functionally with teams including Digital, Supply Chain, Finance, R&I and Sales.
Consider Marketing if: you find yourself interested in the bigger picture of why a brand launches a product, who it’s trying to reach, how it positions that product and how all the pieces of a campaign come together.
Wait. What’s the Difference Between Marketing and Digital?
This is probably the distinction I’d want someone to understand before applying.
There is overlap. Both tracks can touch social media, creators, analytics, campaigns and consumer behavior.
The difference is largely in the lens.
Marketing is closer to the overall brand and consumer strategy: What should we launch? Who is the consumer? How should we position it? What’s happening in the market? How do we bring the campaign to life across channels?
Digital goes deeper into how that brand operates and performs in digital spaces: How are consumers discovering us online? What’s happening on TikTok or Sephora.com? How are our paid campaigns performing? How do we improve e-commerce? What is the data telling us?
Neither is “better.” They simply build different muscles.
And if you’re tempted to apply to both, make sure you can explain why each genuinely interests you rather than treating them as interchangeable marketing internships.
Commercial / Sales
If the word “sales” makes you picture someone standing behind a counter selling lipstick, this internship is a good reminder of how different corporate sales can look.
L’Oréal’s Commercial internship focuses on the retailer side of the business. Interns may work with major retail partners including Sephora, Ulta, Walmart, CVS, Walgreens and Target, depending on placement.
The work can include analyzing sales and business performance, understanding competitive activity, managing retailer relationships and working across functions like marketing and operations to grow the business.
L’Oréal also identifies areas such as Channel Lead, Category Lead and Brand Lead within the commercial function.
Consider Commercial if: you’re interested in the business of getting products into retailers, understanding what sells and why, working with accounts and seeing the connection between brand strategy and actual revenue.
For someone who likes both people and numbers, this can be a particularly interesting middle ground.
Data Science
This one is considerably more technical.
L’Oréal’s Data Science interns work with large datasets and help turn them into insights and data products that can support the company’s brands and business decisions.
The posting specifically references Python, R, SQL, statistical modeling, machine learning, data visualization, APIs and cloud platforms including AWS, Azure and GCP.
Interns may analyze complex datasets, build data-driven solutions, create visualizations and presentations, support data products and work with cross-functional teams.
Consider Data Science if: you already have technical data skills and want to apply them inside a consumer-facing company rather than assuming your career has to lead to a traditional tech company.
That’s an important distinction. Fashion and beauty companies need people who can work with data, technology and machine learning too.
Finance
Finance gives you a look at the numbers behind the beauty business.
Interns can work across areas including brand or commercial profit and loss, corporate financial reporting and analysis, and manufacturing or supply chain finance.
The actual work may include analyzing financial data, monitoring business results against budgets and forecasts, evaluating ROI and recommending business strategies based on what the numbers are showing.
Consider Finance if: you enjoy understanding why a business is performing the way it is, working with numbers and using financial information to influence decisions.
And don’t overlook this track simply because your goal is to “work in beauty.” Every product launch, marketing campaign, retail partnership and operational decision eventually has a financial component.
Sustainability
This internship sits within L’Oréal North America’s Sustainability Team and offers a very different way into the beauty business.
The work may touch several functions, including sourcing, packaging engineering, IT, marketing, communications and employee engagement.
Projects can involve sustainable sourcing, supply-chain data, packaging goals, consumer research and communicating sustainability initiatives internally and externally.
Consider Sustainability if: you’re interested in how companies translate environmental commitments into actual business practices.
This is especially interesting because the work isn’t isolated within one department. Sustainability decisions can touch how products are sourced, packaged, marketed and ultimately brought to consumers.
Should You Apply?
If you meet the eligibility requirements and one or more of these functions genuinely lines up with the kind of work you want to explore, yes, I think this program is worth considering.
But I wouldn’t apply to three simply because L’Oréal allows three.
Your goal isn’t to maximize the number of applications you submit. It’s to maximize the quality of the match.
Read the actual responsibilities. Look at the skills you’ll use. Think about which experience would move you closer to the next internship or full-time role you might want.
Then choose.
Applications are being reviewed on a rolling basis through September 30, 2026, so I also wouldn’t wait until the deadline if you already know which track fits.

Maria’s Career Tip
When a company gives you multiple internship tracks, don’t start by asking, “Which one am I most qualified for?”
Start with: “Which one would teach me the things I actually want to know?”
You’re early in your career. You aren’t supposed to arrive knowing everything.
Look at the responsibilities and imagine yourself doing that work for 11 weeks. Which projects make you curious? Which skills would you be excited to put on your resume afterward? Which internship would give you stories you’d actually want to talk about in your next interview?
Then look at your qualifications and figure out how to make the case.
That’s a much better way to choose an internship than chasing whichever title sounds the most impressive.
How to Apply

Take a few minutes to compare the tracks before you use those applications.
